Skopje, 16 April 2025 (MIA) – The decision restricting the gross profit margins of basic foodstuffs and some hygiene products and the decision establishing the highest prices of eight groups of food products end by the end of this month. Economy Minister Besar Durmishi said the situation will be monitored and other measures will be introduced if necessary.
“We’ll monitor the situation and if we see the inflation is rising, we’ll act accordingly and introduce other measures,” Durmishi told a news conference Wednesday.
According to him, the two measures produced the expected results. Citing official statistical data, inflation in March dropped by 2.7% at annual level and a 1.3% deflation was recorded compared to February.
After being put forward by the Economy Ministry, a decision was made to limit the gross profit margin of 102 food groups and a decision on establishing the highest prices of eight groups of food products. After entering into force on February 20, they will end on April 30.
Starting Friday, supermarkets, pharmacies, electronics and furniture stores should publish the prices of their products on their websites according to the amendments to the Law on Consumer and Protection.
“Amendments to the law entered into force on March 4 and 45 days after the legislation was published in the Official Gazette, retail and wholesale companies should publish the current product price on their websites starting April 18,” Durmishi said.
