Bozhinovska – Kawahara: Enhancing cooperation for secure and sustainable energy future 

Skopje, 13 January 2026 (MIA) - Enhancing bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, as well as joint projects related to the green transition were the topics discussed at a working meeting Tuesday between Minister of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, and the Japanese Ambassador to North Macedonia, Setsuko Kawahara.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of Japanese corporation ITOCHU, one of the leading companies in Japan known for its investment activities and expertise in energy and industrial projects. “ITOCHU is a serious company with global presence, which is showing interest in the Macedonian market as well, and the potentials for a green energy transformation in the country,” the Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources said in a press release.

According to the Ministry, Minister Bozhinovska noted that the country is committed to taking concrete steps towards a sustainable, safe, and inclusive energy future. She assessed Japanese assistance as significant in ensuring energy independence and sustainability.

Both parties affirmed the need to strengthen North Macedonia’s position on the global energy map as a credible and reliable partner in the global transition to green energy. At the end of the meeting, it was concluded that cooperation in energy reform and infrastructure projects between the two countries will continue in the future.
