Baku, 12 March 2025 (MIA) - The strategic partnership and cooperation declaration with Azerbaijan is being finalized, apart from the field of energy there are also many opportunities for cooperation in the economy, tourism, education, culture, science, said President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, who is on official visit to Azerbaijan, on Wednesday.
Following meetings with the Azerbaijani leadership over the past two days, Siljanovska-Davkova said the two sides are fully aligned and there are no obstacles for the declaration that is expected to become a cooperation agreement, which, the President said, “would mean a lot”, according to MIA’s reporter in Baku.
“It is almost agreed, however I must note that we were short on time, we received their response on Friday, still, this is a document that warrants a careful assessment, but we agreed that there are no obstacles. Such an agreement would mean a lot to us. Our neighbors have similar agreements, as well as many EU member states, including Italy. Why shouldn’t we joint them as well and continue moving towards the green agenda through this process of transition with gas with the help of Azerbaijan,” Siljanovska-Davkova said.
The President said the relations between the two countries are friendly, while the expectations are great.
“It is good that we came here, we believe that there is great room for cooperation in the economy, tourism, education, culture, science,” the President said.
On Wednesday, President Siljanovska-Davkova met with the Speaker of Parliament, Sahiba Gafarova, and Prime Minister Ali Asadov. She kicked off her visit to Azerbaijan on Tuesday with a meeting with her counterpart, President Ilham Aliyev.
At the meeting with Prime Minister Asadov, the President noted that relations with Azerbaijan are excellent, “free of any unresolved political issues” and voiced belief in their further strengthening as a result of her visit.
Asadov noted that the meetings realized during the President’s visit are a good sign for the future development of bilateral relations.
At the meetings with both Gafarova and Asadov, Siljanovska-Davkova was introduced to developments in the Caucasus and Azerbaijan’s position. They also discussed developments in the context of the war in Ukraine.
On Thursday, President Siljanovska-Davkova will attend the 12th Global Baku Forum “Rethinking World Order: Turning Challenges into Opportunities” hosted by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center on March 13-15.
