Skopje, 1 January 2026 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Thursday he would meet with lawmakers in the coming period regarding the next Ombudsperson, whose election requires a Badinter majority.
"We will have discussions with numerous lawmakers and MP groups over this issue and we believe it should be overcome, because it is also part of the EU Progress Report. If we all want to see our country move forward on the EU path, then I see no reason why this matter should not be closed," PM Mickoski told reporters.
After Naser Ziberi retired, the Parliament's Committee on Election and Appointment Issues nominated Faton Selami for the Ombudsperson post, but MPs from the DUI-led European Front have refused to vote in favor of the proposal, meaning there aren't sufficient votes as per the Badinter principle.
