Skopje, 1 January 2026 (MIA) - The first baby of 2026 is a girl named Evgenija, born at the Skopje-based Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics at midnight, the third child of 38-year-old Emilija Kamcheva.
Twin girls were also born at the Chair Special Hospital for Gynecology and Obstetrics at midnight.
Health Minister Azir Aliu, Minister of Social Policy, Demography and Youth Fatmir Limani, Deputy Health Minister Jovica Andovski, Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski, Health Insurance Fund Director Sasho Klekovski and PM's wife Rozi Mickoska paid a visit to the mother and the baby early on Thursday.
Clinic director Irena Aleksioska Papestiev said Evgenija is a symbol of fertility and an incentive for other families.
"A home filled with many children is the brightest, warmest and happiest home. Let me thank the Kamchev family for setting an example, in hope they will inspire many families across the country to have more children," said Aleksioska Papestiev.

Minister Aliu and Limani said the three girls born in Skopje are a blessing.
"The Ministry of Health will invest in infrastructure and proper capacities for every newborn. I wish the babies a healthy life and wellbeing," said Aliu.
Limani added that the newborns are a symbol of hope for the country, congratulating the families and wishing their children to grow up in love and health.

Skopje Mayor Gjorgjievski said 2026 will be a year of abundance because girls are a symbol of progress.
"We will make efforts to increase the support provided by the CIty of Skopje, in order to stimulate families to have more children, in line with the Government's policies," said Gjorgjievski.
