Kavadarci, 12 February 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski expects a dramatic reduction of products in supermarkets following the capping of retail and wholesale trade margins to 10 percent, a measure that the Government will adopt at Thursday's session and be valid until the end of April.
"We already have the draft-version of the proposal and I expect its adoption tomorrow, followed by its implementation. The trade margin in retail and wholesale is capped at 10 percent. I expect a dramatic drop in prices of the products that citizens are using on a daily basis, complemented by hygiene products and baby food," PM Mickoski told reporters.
He also referred to the opposition's criticism of the measure ordering supermarkets to update product prices at their websites.
"If you now go to their websites, you cannot see the product prices. This is implemented by certain countries. If I compare the prices, I would think twice before buying the product in the supermarket with the higher price. This will contribute to their competitiveness," noted Mickoski.
The PM noted that the Minister of Economy and Labor would also hold a coordination meeting with the State Market Inspectorate, the Commission for Competition Protection and other institutions, so that the measures also apply to markets selling home appliances.
