Skopje, 13 February 2025 (MIA) - Customs officials at the Bogorodica border crossing have seized 188 kilograms of marijuana destined for Türkiye. Two people have been detained, one from Kumanovo and the other one from Skopje.
According to Customs Administration director Boban Nikolovski, the two drivers had entered the country in a truck at the Blace border crossing on February 8, and on February 9, using the same truck, one of the drivers headed towards the Bogorodica border crossing.
"A detailed search of the truck was carried out at the Bogorodica border crossing, during which the drugs were found stashed among four bales of compressed recycled paper. The estimated value of the drugs on the black market is EUR 707,000," said Nikolovski.
"The Customs Administration has disrupted an international drug smuggling channel. In a joint operation with the Public Security Bureau at the Bogorodica border crossing, 188 kilograms and 636 grams of marijuana, destined for Türkiye, were seized. Two people are detained, and criminal charges were filed against them at the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Gevgelija for committing a crime under Article 215 of the Criminal Code, i.e. unauthorized production and distribution of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors. This case is the first of many in the future where, with joint forces, we pledge an even fiercer fight against crime," Nikolovski added.
