London, 19 April 2026 (PA Media/dpa/MIA) - Real Sociedad goalkeeper Unai Marrero was the hero with two penalty saves in the shoot-out to secure victory over Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey final.

Ander Barrenetxea headed Sociedad into the lead after only 14 seconds in Seville before Ademola Lookman’s low strike had Atletico level in the 18th minute.

Mikel Oyarzabal then slotted in a penalty at the end of the first half to put Sociedad back in front, but Julian Alvarez’s spectacular late equaliser made it 2-2 to force extra-time.

Both sides had chances in the first period, with Alvarez hitting a post, before the shoot-out saw Marrero save both of Atleti’s opening two attempts leaving Pablo Marin to slam home the winning kick and secure a 4-3 victory on penalties.

Napoli lost at home in Serie A for the first time since December 2024, with Lazio’s 2-0 win all but killing off their title hopes.

Antonio Conte’s side were spared an even heavier defeat by Vanja Milinkovic-Savic’s first-half penalty save, but they never found top gear and ended the day 12 points adrift of leaders Inter Milan with five games remaining.

Elsewhere in Italy, Parma beat Udinese 1-0 and Roma drew 1-1 with Atalanta.

In Ligue 1, third-placed Lille played out a goalless draw with Nice, fourth-placed Marseille fell 2-0 to Lorient and Angers’s home clash with Le Havre ended in a 1-1 stalemate, despite the latter losing Arouna Sangante to a red card with 15 minutes remaining.
