Negotiating to buy anti-aircraft systems, defense minister says

Skopje, 17 March 2026 (MIA) — Minister of Defense Vlado Misajlovski announced Tuesday a series of upgrades to national defense capacities, highlighting upcoming negotiations with strategic partners to purchase new military equipment including anti-aircraft systems.

In an interview with TV Alfa, Misajlovski said the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East have made increased defense spending a necessity.

"We must invest, especially considering what is happening in the Middle East and other hot spots, and we must not forget Ukraine, where there is constant war," he said.

According to the defense minister, the procurements will cost millions of euros and be conducted transparently. He said the government's goal was to maintain internal stability and peace through these investments.

The ministry will also focus on improving infrastructure. Following last year’s purchases of uniforms and basic supplies, Misajlovski said EUR 500,000 has now been allocated for the renovation of military facilities.

"We will invest in every facility," he said, adding that the plan includes the reconstruction of at least 17 major facilities, including several barracks and ministry buildings.

Misajlovski also said the ministry was investing in new systems and specialized equipment for cyber defense. mr/
