Mount Zheden wildfire brought under control

Skopje, 24 August 2026 (MIA) - The wildfire that was raging on Mount Zheden for several days and brought smoke to some areas of Skopje on Monday has been brought under control and will likely be fully extinguished, the head of the Protection and Rescue Directorate, Stojanche Angelov, said on Monday evening.

The fire was burning near the village of Bojane and was spreading from the Tetovo side of the mountain to the Skopje side. Wind carried smoke from the fire to the capital, blanketing it in a haze on Monday afternoon.

A total of 14 wildfires were registered in the country by the Crisis Management Center at 1 p.m.
