Minister Andonovski discusses cybersecurity, digitization at meetings in Washington

Skopje, 4 February 2026 (MIA) - As part of his official visit to Washington, Minister of Digital Transformation Stefan Andonovski held working meetings Wednesday at the U.S. Department of State. Andonovski met with Russ Headlee, head of the Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy at the State Department.

According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation between the Republic of North Macedonia and the United States in the fields of digital transformation and cybersecurity. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in key areas: cybersecurity and digital policy; attracting U.S. investments in digitization and cybersecurity; secure institutional connectivity and infrastructure; resilience and trust.

The meeting also discussed issues related to building capacity between partner governments, exchanging expertise, as well as public-private cooperation in cybersecurity, with the goal of developing secure and reliable digital public services and protecting critical digital infrastructure. 

“Digital transformation must go hand in hand with cybersecurity and trust in technology. Cooperation with the State Department and the Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy is an important step toward strengthening our capacities and accelerating the modernization of public services,” Andonovski stressed.

Together with the Macedonian delegation led by Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi, Minister Andonovski also met with Daniel J. Lawton, Deputy Assistant Secretary at the State Department. The Ministry said the meeting represents a significant step toward enhancing cooperation, building institutional capacity, exchanging expertise, and providing mutual support between North Macedonia and the United States.

The meetings concluded with an agreement on next steps, including identifying priority areas for cooperation and establishing regular communication between teams, with the aim of preparing and realizing concrete activities and projects in the coming period.
