Skopje, 18 December 2025 (MIA) - The past year saw challenges and concrete institutional results, primarily in legislative reforms and strategic infrastructure steps, Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources Sanja Bozhinovska told the Energy Community's 23rd Ministerial Council in Vienna on Thursday.
Minister Bozhinovska presented the country's progress in aligning with the European energy and climate legislation, and strengthening of regional energy integration, the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources said in a press release.
Bozhinovska highlighted the adoption of the new Law on Energy as a milestone, a piece of legislation that largely transposes EU's Electricity Integration Package and creates the legal basis for active integration of the national electricity and gas distribution system into the regional and the Union's internal market.

"The law redefines the roles, tasks and responsibilities of institutions, transmission system operators and market operators - not only in implementation but also in the active participation of creating the joint rules for regional energy markets," said Bozhinovska.
She also referred to the adoption of the amendments to the Law on Energy Efficiency, aimed at removing the regulatory and non-regulatory barriers for realization of energy efficiency projects, strengthening of cooperation among all stakeholders, stimulating the use of renewable energy sources among end-users, and ensuring more efficient use of financial facilities and incentives.

On strategic planning, Bozhinovska noted that the revised National Energy and Climate Plan 2025-2030 is in the final stages prior to its adoption, while adding that the access of the country's electricity transmission system operator MEPSO to the Joint Allocation Office (JAO) - the company that hosts Europe's single leading trading platform for cross-border transmission capacity - is a strategic step forward in its integration into the largest and most transparent European platform of this kind.
Bozhinovska underlined that the country is working in parallel on critical investments into regional electricity and gas interconnections for the purpose of increasing energy security, including the project of a gas interconnector with Greece and continued discussions with Serbia in this regard, reads the press release.
