Iranian president apologizes for strikes on neighbouring countries

Tehran, 7 March 2026 (dpa/MIA) - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday apologized for strikes carried out on neighbouring countries over the past week.

Pezeshkian said Iran would not fire missiles or attack its neighbours as long as no attacks against Iran were carried out from their territory.

In a video message aired by the state broadcaster IRIB, he described any form of support for Israel and the United States as "dishonourable."

Pezeshkian said the missile and drone launches were "the result of the chaotic situation following the deaths of several high-ranking commanders, when the armed forces were leaderless and had to act independently."

His remarks imply that no attacks on Iran should originate from US military bases in the region.

But because such installations are located in several Middle Eastern countries, like Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, the condition would effectively also apply to the United States.
