Berlin, 1 March 2026 (dpa/MIA) - Italy's Sofia Goggia hit back on Sunday as she claimed a crucial super-g victory in her bid for back-to-back World Cup titles in the discipline.
Goggia topped the podium in Soldeu .24 of a second ahead of Saturday's winner Emma Aicher of Germany and .31 clear of Norway's Kajsa Vickhoff Lie for a second super-g season success.
With two super-g races left, Goggia increased her slim lead over New Zealand's Alice Robinson, who was seventh on the day, by 64 points to now 84. Aicher in third trails by 116 points, with a maximum 200 points still available.
Aicher and Robinson had cut the gap with a one-two finish on Saturday when Goggia was sixth.
But Goggia's 28th career win put her in a position that she can clinch the discipline title with one race to spare next weekend on home ground in Val di Fassa, where two downhills are also on the schedule.
"I had a solid weekend. The speed was there, I was free in my mind," Goggia said. "I have a really solid feeling in super-g. Now it is important to stay focussed for the races when it counts."
Olympic super-g and giant slalom Federica Brignone was eighth on Sunday.
