Gostivar, 7 March 2026 (MIA) - The project continues to advance at a good pace and we confirm that all invoices up to this date have been fully paid by the government, the construction company Bechtel and Enka stated in response to the dismissal of around fifty workers from the Gostivar–Tetovo region working on the Corridor 8 motorway sections.
The spokesperson for Bechtel-Enka, responding to MIA’s request regarding the dismissals of around fifty employees, said:
“We are proud of our legacy across Central and Eastern Europe, delivering hundreds of kilometers of major motorways, prioritizing local workers, and supporting local communities and businesses.”
She confirmed that the project continues to make good progress and that they remain committed to partnering with the government to deliver motorway infrastructure that strengthens connectivity, supports local employment, and contributes to economic growth. The international company also stated clearly that all invoices to date have been fully paid by the government.
“We are working closely with the Government of North Macedonia to align construction activities with current national priorities. This includes coordinating workforce levels at different phases of the project to meet operational needs,” Daniela Miloshevska said.
“We are aware that this is a difficult time for those affected, but due to the nature of the industry in which we operate, there is often a need to reduce our workforce to meet operational requirements. There is absolutely no difference in treatment based on nationality. The demobilization involves a mix of international and local workers, with processes determined according to the type of contract,” the company added.
