Taravari: Mickoski will accept constitutional change as he accepted Prespa Agreement, he just needs guarantees

Skopje, 28 January 2025 (MIA) — Alliance for Albanians leader and Minister of Health Arben Taravari said in a TV24 appearance Tuesday that Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski would accept the constitutional changes just like he had accepted the Prespa Agreement and the construction of Corridor VIII – Mickoski was only asking for guarantees there would be no more demands from Bulgaria, Taravari said.

"He was against Corridor VIII, yet today work on it is under way more than ever. He was opposing the Prespa Agreement, too, but today he accepts the Prespa Agreement," Taravari said.

"The third thing Mr. Mickoski needs to do — and I hope he will do it and I'm glad he is convinced and 100 percent sure — is for us to definitely move forward on the EU path."

Taravari recalled the US presidential election, saying about Mickoski, "Keep in mind he has close friends who are close to President Trump."

"But there was no government in Bulgaria until a week ago," Taravari said. "For these things to move forward, you need to have someone on the other side to negotiate with."

"I'm very happy and sure Mr. Mickoski wants to and is sure we should start negotiations but he also wants some guarantees," he added.

Taravari said he expected the vote on the constitutional amendments to happen this year. He said the Worth It coalition would initiate their adoption as soon as possible. mr/
