Skopje, 30 January 2025 (MIA) – Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi said at Thursday’s press briefing that legal possibilities are being examined, in consultation with experts and institutions, to implement legal changes and judicial reforms, which as he stated, will ensure quality.
“First, we must recognize that this is a complex issue, and our goal is to find a long-term solution. We are consulting with experts and institutions to develop a sustainable approach. At this moment, I do not want to share my personal opinion, as I believe it is crucial to respect all institutions, reach a consensus, and then move forward with a unified position to solve the problem,” he said.
When asked whether changes in the Judicial Council are needed, Gashi stressed that it is clear to everyone that deep reforms in the judiciary are necessary.
“It is clear to everyone that significant reforms are necessary. However, we must ensure they are well-structured and lead to meaningful improvements. In the past, rushed decisions have resulted in unsustainable solutions. This time, we are approaching the matter differently and with greater caution,” he said.
At the end of last year, the Parliament approves a negative report on the Judicial Council’s work, raising questions about the dismissal of members appointed by Parliament. The matter concerns the dismissal of five out of the nine members of the Judicial Council. As the Parliament cannot immediately dismiss them, legal amendments to the judicial system are being considered.
