Skopje, 30 March 2026 (MIA) – SDSM in the coming period will use all democratic mechanisms at disposal in the fight for European Macedonia, opposition leader Venko Filipche said Monday.

He criticized PM Hristijan Mickoski’s yesterday’s remarks saying the government won’t accept constitutional change under conditions that directly affect the Macedonian identity without clear predictability and final outcome of the process.

“SDSM and the entire coalition is ready to wage a fight for European Macedonia. I urge all of you to join and to unite around the idea of progressive, European Macedonia, to fight against isolation, crime and corruption,” Filipche said speaking at a news conference.

“I will fight, we will fight harder to get the country back on the European track. As we made it possible for the country to join NATO, we will make it possible the country to join the European Union,” he stated.

According to Filipche, it becomes clear after Mickoski’s remarks yesterday that the country is being pushed into isolation.

“What we have been saying recently is being confirmed – Mickoski is pushing the country into isolation and is working in favor of foreign interests, through Serbian, Hungarian and Russian interests as well. Mickoski is a proxy Russian player. VMRO, the organized criminal group, is Trojan horse of the division of the Macedonian national tissue,” insisted Filipche.

EU integration for the Macedonian people, he said, is integration as Macedonians speaking Macedonian language, equal in the great European family with access to funds up to 40 billion euros, higher pays, higher pensions, better education, better infrastructure, better healthcare and justice.

“We have no time to waste. This country isn’t made to wait, to be afraid of uncertainty and of isolation. Macedonia is made to more forward, to advance, to be free, democratic and European country,” Filipche told the news conference.
