Skopje, 27 February 2025 (MIA) - Former director of the Skopje Prison with initials F.A. and a prison police officer with initials S.K. were detained on Thursday on suspicion of abuse of office and enabling the escape of a person deprived of freedom.

The two will be brought before a pre-trial judge, after police searched their homes on Thursday. Criminal charges have been filed against them and eight other people.

The Ministry of Interior said Thursday that criminal charges have been filed with the Public Prosecutor's Office against ten people for the crimes of "illegal release of a person deprived of freedom", "abuse of office and authority", and "enabling the escape of a person deprived of freedom". 

Thursday's police search comes after the Directorate for Execution of Sanctions carried out inspections in correctional facilities and found abuses in the work of some of the prison management staff. The findings have been submitted to the Ministry of Interior and the Prosecutor's Office.
