PM supports protest over young girl's death, says authorities to enforce rigorous penal policy for road rampage

Skopje, 31 January 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Friday the citizens' revolt over the death of a young girl, who was fatally hit by a drunk driver in downtown Skopje, is justified and added that a rigorous penal policy for road rampage would be implemented.

"The citizens' revolt is absolutely justified and one of the ways to overcome this is to have a system in place that would detect this rampage at boulevards and streets in the capital and across the country. We will soon have this system operational. We must implement a rigorous penal policy because the goal is achieved even if we save one life," PM Mickoski told reporters.

According to him, the behavior of certain politicians "who attempt to score political points in this way is irresponsible".

"The Safe City system should be put into use as soon as possible, and I believe this will be the case in the course of the year. The system will operate in cities but also at highways and expressways," said Mickoski.

The PM expressed hope that the judiciary system will "finally free itself from partisan and other influence and function in line with the law".
