Skopje, 3 March 2025 (MIA) – Anyone who thinks that a solution to war and conflict with geo-strategic implications can be found without the participation of the United States is taking an unserious and insincere approach to this issue, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Timcho Mucunski, said.

Responding to a journalist's question about country’s position on the view that the only way to peacefully end the war in Ukraine is through talks between the United States and Russia, Mucunski referred to the resolution adopted by the United Nations Security Council, which calls for peace.

"In recent years, we have all spoken about respecting international law and its principles. Now, we have a legally binding resolution that calls for peace. Anyone who believes that resolving a war and conflict of this scale, with such geo-strategic implications, can be achieved without the involvement of the United States is taking an unserious and insincere approach to this conflict," Mucunski said at a joint press conference in Budapest with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.

He noted that the country’s foreign policy is based on three principles: full NATO membership, alignment with the European Union’s Common Foreign and Security Policy and a strategic partnership with the United States.

"Our foreign policy as a country has three principles – our full NATO membership, maintaining our credibility as partner within NATO, complete alignment with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy, and our strategic partnership with the United States. Above all, in this context, is the Macedonian national interest. That is why I reiterate that everything we do, every decision we make, is aligned with this framework and in line with our national interests," Mucunski stressed.

He pointed out that every decision we make will be within the framework of these three principles, taking into account our national interest and in consultation with all our key strategic partners.
