Skopje, 26 October 2024 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski believes it is now pointless to send a letter to the European Union because everything that should have been contained in the letter has already been discussed with the EU leaders and with the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who visited the country on Thursday.  

In a statement to the media during a visit to Aerodrom Municipality on Saturday, the PM said that the country's position is clear, adding that for the process of constitutional amendments to start, it is necessary that the Bulgarian Parliament ratifies the country's EU accession agreement. 

"In order to start the process of constitutional amendments, it is necessary that what we propose be accepted, i.e. when the Bulgarian Parliament ratifies the country's EU accession agreement, the constitutional amendments come into effect. I believe it is a fair solution for everyone, given the situation we were brought in by the Government in which Bujar Osmani had the main say and Marichikj and Kovachevski only followed. I am now finding out what was done in that period and the information is really shocking, that's why we are fighting hard. There will be no other type of constitutional amendments while I am Prime Minister, I will not accept ultimatums and dictates," said Mickoski. 

On Sunday's elections in Bulgaria, he said he could not say who would be a better option, adding that it was logical that he wants Boyko Borissov's party to win as both are part of the European People's Party.   

"Bulgarian citizens best know who to elect to represent them both in the Bulgarian Parliament and in the future Bulgarian Government. I wish them successful, fair and democratic elections, and choosing the government they think will best work in the interest of the Bulgarian citizens and promote stability in the region and good neighbourly relations. I could not say who would be a better interlocutor, but I can say that with the GERB party, which is led by Boyko Borissov, we are in the same family in the European People's Party, and it is logical to want a political party that comes from our family to win the elections," Mickoski said.
