Ljutkov at meeting of Western Balkans culture ministers in Slovenia

Skopje, 9 February 2025 (MIA) - Minister of Culture and Tourism Zoran Ljutkov took part Sunday at a meeting of Western Balkans culture ministers in Nova Gorica, within his two-day visit to Slovenia, upon an invitation of counterpart Asta Vrečko.

The meeting, also attended by European Commissioner on Neighborhood and Enlargement Marta Kos and European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, Glenn Micallef, focused on the role of culture, international culture projects, including the European culture capitals, in sustainable development, the Ministry of Culture said in a press release.

Minister Ljutkov said culture and sustainable development are among the most significant topics of contemporary cultural policy.

"Culture is a powerful generator of positive change in our societies and economies, and its potential impacts the promotion of sustainable development. In a world facing the challenges of climate change, economic inequality and polarization of societies, culture is the bridge that links economic, social and environmental aspects of a country's development," said Ljutkov.

Meeting participants shared the best practices for intercultural dialogue through bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as strengthening the role of culture in the enlargement process.

"Our country, as part of the global cultural network, is actively taking part in various international cultural initiatives and programmes for exchange of artists and cultural workers. In this context, our artists are able to showcase their works on the global stage and enrich their experience, but also learn from other cultures," said Ljutkov.

During his stay, Ljutkov also attended the formal opening of "European Capital of Culture 2025 - Nova Gorica/Gorizia", reads the press release.
