Skopje, 5 February 2025 (MIA) – The Skopje Drama Theater has opened a call, running from February 5 until February 20, inaugurating the Goran Stefanovski Award for a play by an up-and-coming writer under 30.

A five-member commission will review the plays and the winner of the newly established award will be revealed by mid-May at the latest.

In addition to getting 60,000 denars, the winner will also see their play produced by the Drama Theater in the coming two seasons.

Speaking at a news conference Wednesday, Drama Theater Director Robert Veljanoski said the award was initiated by the former administration of the theatre in order to motivate young people to write plays. “All good things should continue and be upgraded,” he stated.

“Goran Stefanovski is an unbreakable part of the history of Drama Theater, which had produced 15 plays by Stefanovski. This is why we decided to introduce an award in his honor this year to motivate young writers hoping a new Goran might emerge, who will write plays that will be a reflection of the time we live in,” Veljanovski said.
