Toshkovski in Brussels: Macedonia reaffirms commitment to counter migrant smuggling

Skopje, 10 December 2025 (MIA) - Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski participated Wednesday in Brussels in the second International Conference of the Global Alliance to Counter Migrant Smuggling, a major forum uniting partners to tackle one of the most serious transnational security threats.

According to the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of Macedonia, Minister Toshkovski supported the Alliance’s Joint Declaration, reaffirming the country’s strong commitment to enhanced prevention and a more effective institutional response to migrant smuggling. This, it is noted, represents an important recognition of Macedonia’s role as an active and trusted partner in global efforts to combat organized crime.

As part of the conference, Minister Toshkovski held a bilateral meeting with EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner.

“The discussions focused on Macedonia’s European integration process, as well as the importance of coordinated European policies in border management,” the press release reads.

On the sidelines of the conference, Minister Toshkovski also met with the Director General of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), Susanne Raab, discussing current migration challenges and opportunities to deepen future cooperation.

Toshkovski also met with Pakistan’s Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, Mohsin Raza Naqvi.

They discussed strengthening bilateral security cooperation, which is expected to be formalized in the near future through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two ministries.

The Ministry of Interior reports that Macedonia’s participation in the work of the Global Alliance to Counter Migrant Smuggling once again emphasizes the country’s role as an active and credible partner contributing to European and global security.
