State Opera Varna performs Tchaikovsky's Queen of Spades at National Opera and Ballet

Skopje, 14 December 2024 (MIA) - The National Opera and Ballet will host Saturday evening a special performance of the Queen of Spades (Pique Dame), one of the most iconic operas of all time, by P.I. Tchaikovsky, performed by the soloists, choir, orchestra, and ballet of the State Opera Varna.
The National Opera and Ballet has announced that the performance is the result of international cooperation and cultural exchange. The event offers a unique opportunity for classical music and opera enthusiasts to experience the power of music and artistic interpretation at its finest.
The conductor is Grigor Palikarov, the director is Vera Nemirova, the set and costume designer is Youlian Tabakov, the choreographer is Anna Pampulova, and the choir conductor is Teodora Georgieva.
The performers include: Valeriy Georgiev, Irina Zhekova, Boyka Vasileva, Plamen Dimitrov, Ivo Yordanov, Plamen Raykov, Evgeniy Stanimirov, Velin Mihaylov, Petar Petrov, Vladislav Vladimirov, Michaela Berova, Vyara Zhelezova, Galina Velikova, and Liliya Ilieva-Mihaylova, accompanied by the choir, orchestra, and ballet of the State Opera Varna.
The Queen of Spades or Pique Dame, Op. 68 is an opera in three acts (seven scenes) by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky to a Russian libretto by the composer's brother Modest Tchaikovsky, based on the 1834 novella of the same name by Alexander Pushkin, but with a dramatically altered plot. The premiere took place in 1890 at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
