Not giving up on efforts to unblock integrations, EU membership our future: PM

Not giving up on efforts to unblock integrations, EU membership our future: PM

Skopje, 15 March 2025 (MIA) - We are not giving up on the efforts to unblock the country’s Euro-integration path since EU membership is our future. Despite the great concessions, the country is in the same position it has been for 25 years, due to a bilateral issue. Someone in Brussels should take a look at themselves and say if they truly want to see this region and this small country at the heart of the Balkans in the European Union, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Saturday.

“As a person and politician, I will do everything in our power for the citizens to receive a European future regardless of whether Europe wants to have us or whether we will bring Europe here. This is my personal priority, because I am a university professor, I educate young people and I know that is the future of this country, there is no other. It is a fact that at this moment we have obstructions that have nothing to do with the European values. We are fighting to overcome them but there is no deadline. Until we have a clear European perspective we will negotiate, and we will work to unblock this process. We will do everything in our power, there is no giving up. I will never stand in front of my citizens and say our path is blocked there is no future. I will fight,” Mickoski told journalists.

The Prime Minister said the country’s foreign policy wouldn’t change even in the absence of guarantees but, he said, “it is up to Brussels to show whether they are truly interested in integrating the region and the country within the Union”.

“We will continue to strive for EU membership, this is our goal and our final destination. Whether the EU unblocks the process depends on the EU itself, not us. We have given too much as no other nation, no other country has for the EU,” Mickoski said.
