No talks on anthem and emblem, no taboos either: Deputy PM

Skopje, 20 February 2025 (MIA) - First Deputy PM and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Izet Mexhiti said Thursday there are no talks regarding the national anthem and emblem but no taboos either, with discussions on everything in the interest of the citizens and the country.

"The Government programme is in focus, there are no talks about the anthem and the emblem but no taboos either, so discussions are there. We have a political agreement about the government programme and its pillars - economic development, standard of life, EU integration, rule of law, decentralization - and we are fully focused on these on a daily basis. There are no negotiations or political agreement about other things, but the Government is continually discussing everything in the interest of the country and the citizens, there are no taboo topics. I would not go into something there is no political agreement about. We are not hiding anything," Deputy PM Mexhiti told reporters.

Asked about differences among coalition partners around the anthem and the emblem, he said there is one Government but partners are not a single entity, adding that the executive has the democratic and political capacity to find solutions on the table based on arguments.

On the name of a new chief prosecutor, Mexhiti said they are not discussing a name, but a professional who should bring back the people's trust in the judiciary.

Regarding a coalition agreement for support at the upcoming local elections, the Deputy PM said the government partners have always supported each other.

"Government partners have always supported each other since the onset of pluralism. The same will happen at these elections," said Mexhiti.
