Mickoski: Situation in country ‘absolutely normal’, Gov’t will react appropriately to challenges

Skopje, 11 March 2026 (MIA) - There is currently no challenge that would endanger the normal functioning of the system. The situation in the country is absolutely normal, we are monitoring the situation and we will react appropriately to the challenges, we won’t wait for them to happen first and then take measures, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Wednesday.

Mickoski said the proposals put forward by the opposition are a part of the Government’s considerations, but, he said, there are also other measures that could be taken if the need arises.

“We are monitoring the situation. These are the beginnings of the challenge that is happening in the Gulf and the war. I would ask that we all remain calm because there really is currently no challenge that would endanger the normal functioning of the system, nor are there any indicators that could surprise us. Of course, challenges are happening on a daily basis and we are analyzing them. Unlike the opposition, we are responsible. I see they are referring to some statements we have made in 2022, but these situations are absolutely not comparable, since the statements were made after several months of continued growth, while now we are talking about a few days after the beginning of the crisis. But, of course, the opposition’s proposal are a part of the Government’s considerations, and there are also other measures that will be taken and we will react appropriately to the challenges, we won’t wait for them to happen first before we react. Currently, the situation is absolutely normal,” Mickoski told journalists after a meeting with foreign investors in the country.

The Prime Minister said he would hold meetings with traders and representatives of supermarkets on Wednesday afternoon. He said he expects everyone to act with the aim of protecting the living standard of the citizens amid ongoing challenges.

“We will speak openly about how, as a Government, we can help maintain price stability and prevent a dramatic rise in inflation and the cost of living. I expect that in these challenging conditions, everyone will act in a way that protects the standard of living of our citizens, because by doing so, we also protect businesses. We currently have the lowest fuel prices in the region, there is no price shock, and the supply of oil and petroleum products is not in question. Supplier companies have sufficient reserves, and inflation is the lowest in the region. The situation in the country is absolutely normal, we will see how things develop further. The start of the year is promising according to all indicators and parameters, but we continue to work in the interest of protecting the living standards of the citizens. Retail prices rose by 1.6 percent in February, which means that core inflation is slowly but surely calming down. I have clear messages and arguments prepared for today’s meeting with the traders,” Mickoski said.
