Skopje, 27 January 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told 360 Stepeni in an interview Monday that the Government’s positions about the country’s EU accession remain unchanged, and the accession process should be judged based on the country’s achievements and not on bilateral disputes.
The Prime Minister said he is ready to discuss a solution with Bulgaria’s leadership.
“There are no issues when it comes to initiating a meeting with Bulgaria, we are neighbors, and it would be logical for us to initiate such a meeting, so that we can get to know each other, we are colleagues, we cooperate, we are both in NATO. I will absolutely seek out a meeting,” Mickoski stressed.
Prime Minister Mickoski said such a meeting would assess whether the two countries can overcome their differences over their perspectives of the country’s path to full-fledged EU membership.
“This is generally where the difference lies, we have different viewpoints. We have our strategy, the essence is the same, and it is whether we will be allowed to begin the negotiations after two decades and have the process be assessed on the basis of achievements and not bilateral disputes. Let’s see if we can find common ground on this issue, and after that we can look for a solution for everything else,” PM Mickoski said.
