Brussels, 20 March 2025 (MIA) – A commemorative ceremony in honour of the victims of the nightclub fire in Kochani was held Wednesday evening in Brussels, organised by the Association Makedonium, and the Church of Saint Prophet Elijah and Archangel Michael.
The attendees at the commemorative gathering honoured the victims with a two-minute silence.
At the event, the Macedonian Ambassador to Belgium, Metodija Belevski, expressed sorrow over the tragic incident and condolences for the victims. He also conveyed gratitude to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union for their assistance in providing care for those injured in the fire.
Belevski also extended his thanks to our fellow citizens in Belgium, who expressed their willingness and offered accommodation for the relatives of the injured young people, who are being transferred to Belgium for treatment.
At the event, brief speeches were delivered by the Greek Ambassador to Belgium, Sofia Grammata, as well as representatives of the Association Makedonium and Serbian association Krug.
A book of condolences was opened at the event, where those present expressed their condolences for the victims and solidarity with their families. Attendees also had the opportunity to donate funds to assist the injured and their relatives, who will be in Belgium in the coming days.
Four of the fire victims were transferred to Belgium for medical treatment early on Thursday. Two are receiving treatment in Brussels, one in Antwerp, and another in Charleroi. Their transfer to Belgium was coordinated by the European Union, with a special flight provided by the Romanian Armed Forces.
The embassy has also opened a book of condolences for Macedonian nationals as well as foreign citizens and diplomatic representatives to leave messages of sympathy for the bereaved by the Kochani tragedy.
The embassy in Brussels is open to visitors leaving condolence messages this week every workday from 10 am to noon and from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm, except Friday, when the book of condolences can be signed from 10 am to noon.
