Skopje, 13 March 2026 (MIA) - Current global challenges and the United Nations' role in strengthening multilateralism, sustainable development and international cooperation were in the focus of the meeting of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Zoran Dimitrovski with President of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock, in New York on Friday.
Deputy FM Dimitrovski reaffirmed North Macedonia's strong commitment to the principles of the UN Charter and the support to an effective, inclusive and functional multilateral system, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said in a press release.
Dimitrovski said the world is currently facing serious challenges, armed conflicts, natural disasters, rising inequality and international law violations, which imposes the need for stronger and more efficient global cooperation, while highlighting the importance of in-depth reforms of the UN system, increased transparency and inclusivity in the decision-making process, as well as the organization's strengthened capability to respond to the threats on peace, sustainable development and human rights.
Referring to the country's European prospects, the Deputy PM noted that North Macedonia remains firmly committed to EU accession-related reforms and full alignment with the Union's common foreign and security policy. He added that the Macedonian society holds a clear pro-European orientation, whereas the Government is focused on the implementation of reforms, while expecting a clear, credible and predictable enlargement process.
UNGA President Baerbock said she has consistently supported the vision for a unified Europe based on peace and mutual trust, both in the current capacity and as former German foreign minister.
She stressed that the EU integration of the countries from the Western Balkans is of crucial importance in ensuring long-term stability, security and economic progress in the region.
Interlocutors also discussed the UNGA's priorities, including the need for enhanced cooperation among member-states in the management of global challenges, such as sustainable development, climate change, and maintaining international peace and security, reads the press release.
