Skopje, 5 November 2024 (MIA) – The 25th Autumnal Musical Festivities event is to kick off with a performance of the Makedonikum suite composed by Davor Jordanovski and performed by the In Medias Res ensemble from the Polyphony Art Center on Tuesday evening at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle.
The Makedonikum project aims to promote Macedonian art music to new generations and audiences. Over the past 20 years, the Polyphony Art Center has played an active role in developing projects across a range of styles, attracting a broad audience, including educational, experimental, jazz performances, as well as premieres of classical and baroque music. Committed to innovation and diversity, the Center enhances the arts while honoring the legacy and experience of the many artists featured in Polyphony’s projects over the years.
“The concert presentation of this project is a unique fusion of renowned Macedonian performers and music composed in a classical style, blending cultural musical influence from different part of the world through well-known Macedonian melodies. The suite Makedonikum by composer Davor Jordanovski dates back to 2002. It consists of 12 pieces for a mixed ensemble (violin, flute, clarinet, bassoon, and piano), inspired by legendary Macedonian melodies like Koljo, Milica, Anja, Chalgii, and more,” said Risto Gjorevski, a member of the ensemble, in the press release.
The concert will feature the following artists: Sanja Shuplevska on violin, Marija Jakimovska on flute, Risto Gjorevski on clarinet, Orce Ickovski on bassoon, and Davor Jordanovski on piano.
