Siljanovska-Davkova: Boris Trajkovski’s vision remains our duty

Skopje, 26 February 2026 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova paid her respects Thursday to former President Boris Trajkovski and the members of the Macedonian delegation who died in a plane crash in Bosnia and Herzegovina 22 years ago.

“Twenty-two years after the tragedy, with deep sorrow, we once again paid our respect to President Boris Trajkovski and the members of the Macedonian delegation, whose lives were lost in the plane crash in Bosnia and Herzegovina. President Trajkovski will remain remembered as a statesman, leader, and a good person, whose life and politics were founded on principles and values. He was a sworn peacemaker, human rights fighter, he deeply believed in the Macedonian European future and democracy. His vision remains our duty,” President Siljanovska-Davkova wrote in a post on her official Facebook profile.

The President also laid wreaths at the graves of the members of Trajkovski’s delegation who also lost their lives in the crash – Dimka Ilkova-Boshkovikj, Risto Blazhevski, Mile Krstevski, Marko Markovski, and Brank Ivanovski at the Butel cemetery in Skopje.

Delegations paid their respects to Anita Krishan-Lozanovska at the cemetery in Veles, Boris Velinov in the Municipality of Ilinden, and Ace Bozhinovski in Bardovci.

Boris Trajkovski (1956-2004) served as the nation's second president from 1999 until his death in 2004. He was born in Monospitovo, near Strumica, and he died at age 47 in a plane crash near Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, while traveling to an international conference.
