Andonovski: Strengthening national cyber security capacities for a secure, connected and European digital country

Skopje, 26 February 2026 (MIA) - Equipment worth EUR 150.000, along with advisory support and expert training for the Government Computer Security Incident Response Center (MKD-CSIRT) procured as part of the project “EU Support for Cybersecurity Capacity Building in North Macedonia” was presented Thursday at the Ministry of Digital Transformation.

Minister of Digital Transformation Stefan Andonovski, in his address at the event, stressed that the project is a strong example of how partnership with the European Union delivers concrete results for the country by strengthening national cybersecurity capacities and improving institutional resilience.

“Our goal is clear – a secure, connected, and European digital country,” Andonovski said.

With the procurement, the Ministry has successfully completed the first stage of cooperation with the e-Governance Academy (EGA) as part of the initiative “EU Support to Western Balkans Cybersecurity Capacity Building” financed by the European Union.

“As the final stage of the project, equipment worth EUR 149.921 was donated to strengthen the operational capacities of GOV-CSIRT and enhance the protection of state institutions and critical digital infrastructure. This means faster threat detection, more efficient incident response, and greater resilience against cyberattacks. The donation complements the Ministry’s own investments of more than EUR 1.5 million in fully equipping the Government’s CSIRT,” Andonovski said.

Andonovski expressed gratitude to the European Union for its continued support, as well as to the institutions and experts involved in implementing the activities.

At the event, the Ambassador of the European Union, Michalis Rokas, noted that new technologies have digitized much of people’s daily lives, which he said is beneficial, but without proper protection, the digital environment and technologies remain vulnerable to cyberattacks that can cause enormous damage.

“The European Union remains committed to supporting North Macedonia and the Western Balkans in aligning with EU cybersecurity standards,” Rokas said.
