Reports: Two killed in plane-vehicle collision at LaGuardia Airport

New York, 23 March 2026 (dpa/MIA) - Two people were killed when an Air Canada aircraft collided with a vehicle at New York's LaGuardia Airport late on Sunday, according to media reports citing local authorities.

The incident occurred on a runway shortly after the flight landed in New York at around 11:40 pm (0340 GMT), the airport said in a statement on X.

The vehicle involved was a firefighting vehicle that had been "responding to a separate incident" at the time of the crash, it said.

Images showed the aircraft, which had reportedly departed from Montréal, with significant damage to its nose.

Four people were initially reported to be injured in the incident, but CNN and NBC News later reported, citing police, that the aircraft's pilot and co-pilot had died.

Two people who had been inside the firefighting vehicle at the time of the collision were injured, as well as several flight passengers, CNN and NBC News reported.

There has so far been no official confirmation of the casualties and the cause of the crash remains unclear.

Flight operations at the airport were temporarily suspended following the incident, the airport said.

LaGuardia is primarily used for domestic flights within the United States.
