Skopje, 27 January 2025 (MIA) — Conducted by Ivan Eminovikj, the National Opera and Ballet will perform Italian composer Pietro Mascagni's one-act opera "Cavalleria rusticana" on Jan. 31.

Mascagni’s best-known work is a drama about love, jealousy, and betrayal set in a Sicilian village.

According to the NOB in a press release, "'Cavalleria rusticana' is a pearl of an opera, steeped in passion and driven by revenge" and it is one of the world's most popular operas.

It was directed by Giandomenico Vaccari from Italy. The cast consists of Vesna Gjinovska Ilkova as Santuzza, Zoran Sotirov as Turiddu, Riste Velkov as Alfio, Marija Naumovska as Lola, and Marika Popovikj as Mother Lucia.

They will be accompanied by the National Opera Ballet choir and orchestra. The concertmaster is Verica Lambevska and the choirmasters are Gjurgica Dashikj and Jasmina Gjorgjeska.

The set was designed by Zoran Nikolovski. The costumes were designed by Elena Doncheva. mr/
