San Jose, California, 29 March 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Tech billionaire Elon Musk announced on Friday he has sold his social media company, X, to his artificial intelligence company xAI.
The all-stock deal is worth $45 billion, including $12 billion in debt, Musk wrote on X. The deal values xAI at $80 billion and X at $33 billion, according to his post.
"xAI and X’s futures are intertwined. Today, we officially take the step to combine the data, models, compute, distribution and talent," he said.
"The combined company will deliver smarter, more meaningful experiences to billions of people while staying true to our core mission of seeking truth and advancing knowledge," Musk said.
"This will allow us to build a platform that doesn’t just reflect the world but actively accelerates human progress."
X was built upon the microblogging service Twitter, which Musk bought in October 2022 for around $44 billion.
