Mucunski: Diversification key to economic resilience in an increasingly unpredictable world

Skopje, 3 February 2026 (MIA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski took part Tuesday in a panel discussion "Next Logistics Order: What Must Change?", held within the World Governments Summit in Dubai, saying unpredictability is the only predictable thing in the current global political landscape.

"This is a reality that we must face with and learn how to live with," said FM Mucunski and added that instead of reacting to challenges, it is necessary to build long-term capabilities for adaptation.

Mucunski said that from a government's standpoint, diversification is the key tool for risk management, meaning that a country should not depend on a single industry, a single route, a single market or a single center.

"We need to actively enlarge our options and cooperate more often with markets and industries that we have perhaps not considered as traditional partners until now," noted Mucunski.

The FM also highlighted the need for governments to have a more intensive dialogue and react faster to challenges, considering that the present system requires efficient adaptation that needs to turn into an advantage.

Referring to the business environment, Mucunski said Europe often faces difficulties due to its regulatory approach, with the continent having a kind of "hyperinflation" in legislation.

"Businesses need simplified procedures, efficiency and speed," said Mucunski and added the United Arab Emirates could serve as a model that one can learn from, not only in the use of contemporary tools but also creating adaptable legislation that is ready to support businesses.

On the country's logistical position, he said Corridor VIII stretches from Italy, via the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, to Albania and North Macedonia, and then continuing to Bulgaria and the Black Sea, while Corridor X represents a crucial trade and infrastructure route starting from Hungary, through Serbia and North Macedonia, down to the Thessaloniki and Piraeus ports in Greece.

"A country-specific aspect is that we are the only state in the region where Corridors VIII and X overlap," said Mucunski.

According to him, it is necessary to actively invest in energy security and networking, stressing the current construction of the gas interconnector with Greece and the pending investment in an interconnector with Serbia, so that the gas is destined for the country but also transits.

"When it comes to networking - be it energy, infrastructure or airline investments - diversification and clear understanding of the country's position and the market needs are of crucial importance. The Government has a clear approach and we are certain these investments will be of essential significance for the country's long-term future," underlined Mucunski.
