Skopje, 9 January 2025 (MIA) — The University Children's Clinic is full, so triage doctors evaluate the severity of children's symptoms before admitting the most severe cases, University Children's Clinic director Rexhep Memedi told reporters Thursday after saying more kids were being hospitalized this winter for infections causing respiratory and gastrointestinal illness.
Memedi said the rising numbers of sick kids were due to "seasonal viruses" that were "common" this time of year.
"This part of the year is dominated by seasonal viruses that are more common," Memedi said.
"We have had an increased number of patients with respiratory symptoms and intestinal infections who are treated at our clinic," he said.
Memedi stressed that the hospital was full and doctors were "trying their best to properly triage" patients and hospitalize only those who were "more seriously ill." mr/
