Mickoski: Leaders' meeting is a topic too serious to be discussed via media

Novo Selo, 30 March 2025 (MIA) – Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Sunday the SDSM leader’s proposal for a leaders’ meeting is a topic that is too serious to be discussed via the media.

“Serious topics require serious approach,” Mickoski told reporters responding to a question after overseeing construction works for a pedestrian lane in a Strumica village. He added he is prepared to meet with SDSM leader Venko Filipche to discuss the issue.

The opposition leader Filipche last week said he will invite the leaders of the largest political parties in the country to a meeting next week in Parliament to present his plan in the wake of the deadly Kochani nightclub fire. “This is an obligation toward the country, because it’s obvious that conventional means of running politics, of political fight do not produce swift results,” he stated.

Commenting on the opposition leader’s proposal for a leaders’ meeting, Worth It coalition said Filipche doesn’t have the credibility to call for a meeting. “Mr Venko Filipche confirmed his intention to politicize the collective tragedy, which leaves him without credibility to call for a leaders’ meeting,” said the coalition.

ZNAM, the junior government coalition partner, said it will announce whether its representative will take part in the leaders’ meeting once it received the initiative announced by Filipche.

DUI said that a parliamentary commission with international oversight should be set up first before other steps are made. “We call on all MPs who don’t want one of the largest tragedies in the country to end in the largest legal farce of selective justice and state capture, to sign the initiative of the ‘European Front’ on the formation of such commission,” DUI said.
