Skopje, 18 March 2025 (MIA) - The health of those injured in the fire in Kochani should be a top priority, North Macedonia's Medical Chamber said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The Medical Chamber welcomes the timely response of the competent institutions in our country, as well as the heartfelt assistance and support other countries provide by taking in the most seriously inured patients after the fire in Kochani. Such organization is crucial for patients to have a real chance, with appropriate and highly professional medical care, to overcome the difficult health situation they are in. The support we receive from other countries, both in terms of patient care and medical expertise, together with the dedicated work of our doctors, is the most important at this time to prevent further tragic deaths," reads the statement.
The Medical Chamber appeals for observing the medical protocols in the treatment and protection of this type of patients, which provide for isolation and a ban on visits.
"It must be taken in consideration that these patients have multisystem involvement of the body and are at an increased risk of infections. Any additional contact with outside persons can, directly and seriously, threaten their health, and also cause unnecessary stress and unease, as well as hinder the work of medical staff," the Chamber said.
In addition, the Medical Chamber calls on all institutions, politicians, media, citizens and healthcare workers to observe medical protocols and consider the health of the injured as top priority.
"We believe that such an attitude will contribute to greater trust among the public, rather than unnecessary direct visits to the patients," said the Medical Chamber.
