Skopje, 23 February 2025 (MIA) — Members of Parliament during their 35th session scheduled for Monday will be discussing proposed amendments to the Law on Accounting Practice, which would allow accountants who are under pending disciplinary procedures to sign annual accounts and financial statements for 2024.
According to the bill submitted by MPs from the ruling majority, the accountants will have to meet their unfulfilled obligation of professional development, which was the reason the disciplinary procedures had been initiated against them, by Dec. 31, 2026.
Disciplinary procedures have been initiated by the Institute of Accountants and Chartered Accountants against some 3,300 accountants. Subsequently, their names have been temporarily removed from the registry of accountants because they had not attended enough training courses at consulting companies. This has made them unable to sign annual accounts. mr/
