Skopje, 17 January 2025 (MIA) - The Kumanovo-Beljakovce railway line was put into use on Friday. Marking the completion of this section of Corridor 8, the railway line spans a length of 30.8 kilometers and features three newly constructed railway stations, six stops, five bridges, one tunnel, and many other infrastructure facilities.
Addressing the opening ceremony for the railway line, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Corridor 8 was an equally important and strategic project along with Corridor 10.
"These two Corridors are a top priority for this Government, because the country represents an intersection of these two corridors and this should be our advantage compared to other countries in the region," said the PM.
He added that the second section of the Corridor will soon be completed, as well as the tender procedure for the third section.
"I am convinced that the second section will soon be completed within the deadline as provided for in the agreement. The tender procedure for the third section will be completed very soon, which will make us fully connected to our eastern neighbor, and thus we will be part of a very important corridor not only for the EU, but also for NATO," Mickoski added.
The railway stations and stops feature signaling and telecommunications infrastructure including aluminum seats, steel canopies, displays and LED lighting.
The Kumanovo-Beljakovce railway line spans a length of 30.8 kilometers and features three newly constructed railway stations (Novo Kumanovo, the reconstructed existing Kumanovo station), six stops, five bridges, one tunnel, slope protections, drainage systems, access roads, noise barriers, and signaling and telecommunications infrastructure worth €10 million.
