Israel launches fresh strikes in Lebanon

Tel Aviv/Beirut, 9 December 2025 (dpa/MIA) - The Israeli air force has again struck positions of the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia in southern Lebanon, the military said early on Tuesday.
A training compound used by Hezbollah's elite Radwan unit was among the targets hit, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.
The compound had been used "for planning and executing terrorist activities against IDF troops and Israeli civilians," it added.
Additional strikes targeted Hezbollah military infrastructure and a rocket launch site, it added. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
"The targets that were struck, and the military training conducted in preparation for attacks against the State of Israel, constitute a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon and a threat to the State of Israel," the IDF said.
Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire in November 2024 after more than a year of cross-border fire, though both sides have repeatedly accused each other of violating the deal since then.
A key element of the ceasefire agreement is the disarmament of Hezbollah, a politically sensitive process that has been sought unsuccessfully in Lebanon for decades.
Israel and its northern neighbour remain formally in a state of war. Lebanon's president recently signalled openness to new negotiations with Israel.
