Hezbollah claims rocket attack on Golan Heights, two civilians killed

Tel Aviv/Beirut, 10 July 2024 (dpa/MIA) - Two people were killed in a rocket attack on the northern Golan Heights on Tuesday, according to Israeli police.

Israeli media reported that a car was hit, and the victims were civilians. The army reported about 40 missiles from Lebanon targeted the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

The Lebanese Hezbollah militia claimed responsibility for the Tuesday evening attack. They said they fired dozens of rockets at an Israeli military base in the Golan Heights in response to a previous Israeli attack.

A few hours earlier, a suspected Israeli drone attack on a car in Syria near the border with Lebanon had killed a former bodyguard of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Nasrallah said via video link during a religious ceremony in the evening that the attacks on Israel would continue.

Israel and the Hamas-allied Hezbollah have exchanged fire almost daily since the start of the Gaza war on October 7 last year.

The intensity of these clashes has recently increased significantly. There have been fatalities on both sides, raising fears that the conflict could spread wider in the region.
