Exports drop 7.6%, imports rise 0.1% in January–June 2024

Skopje, 5 August 2024 (MIA) — The total value of exports from North Macedonia between January and June was Mden 241,975.1 million or EUR 3,930.0 million, a drop of 7.6% compared to the same period last year, according to preliminary figures released by the State Statistical Office.


According to the release, the value of imports in the same period was Mden 341,348.3 million, or EUR 5,544.0 million, a rise of 0.1% from last year. The import-export coverage was 70.9%.

 

The trade deficit in the period January-June 2024 was Mden 99,373.2 million or EUR 1,614.0 million.

 

The country predominatly exported "supported catalysts with precious metal or precious metal compounds as the active substance, ignition wiring sets and other wiring sets of a kind used in vehicles, aircraft or ships, parts of the seats of subgroup 821.1 and other supported catalysts," the release said.

 

The largest imports were "petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude), other metals of the platinum group and alloys thereof, unwrought or in powder form, platinum and platinum alloys, unwrought or in powder form and electricity."

 

In terms of total external trade volume, the most important trade partners of North Macedonia between January and June 2024 were Germany, Great Britain, Greece, China and Serbia. mr/
