Skopje, 4 October 2024 (MIA) - If forecasts are accurate and the rain is intensive, concentrated in small areas and short-lasting, local problems and overflows of small waterways are possible in the western and northwestern parts of the country, especially the ones flowing down the mountain massifs of Shar Mountain, Korab and Deshat, Stogovo and Karaorman, Bistra and Jablanica, the Crisis Management Center said in a press release Friday.

The CMC said in case of heavy and concentrated rains in the urban populated areas of Skopje, Kumanovo, Tetovo, Gostivar, Debar, Struga and Ohrid, local urban problems could arise due to the insufficient capacity of the drainage networks.

“The water levels of larger rivers are expected to rise, but there is no danger of them bursting their banks. We urge caution in case of movement along smaller rivers, especially in the western and northwestern parts of the country during the evening. The Hydrometeorological Service informs that, as a result of cyclonic activity, rains are expected nationwide beginning in the evening and lasting during the night. Higher precipitation is expected in the western and northwestern parts, where according to forecasts over 40 liters per square meter of rain are expected to fall,” the CMC said.
