Beijing, 5 March 2025 (dpa/MIA) - China is set to announce important political and economic goals for the year 2025 on Wednesday.
At the start of the National People's Congress in Beijing, Premier Li Qiang plans to read a government report in the Great Hall of the People.
This report typically includes the economic growth target, the military budget of the People's Republic, and statements on handling Taiwan, which China regards as its territory despite the island nation being independently governed.
This year's annual meeting of the unelected parliament, with its roughly 3,000 delegates, is scheduled to last for seven days.
Following the opening, delegates are expected to discuss further reports in the coming days, which are to be voted on during the last day of the session.
High-ranking ministers are expected at press conferences to make statements about various subjects, including Chinese diplomacy.
Experts do not anticipate major surprises at this year's congress. Beijing is likely to stick to continuity in its policies.
Analysts have predicted a similarly high growth target as in 2024, which was "approximately 5%," and a slightly higher budget deficit.
