Skopje, 14 January 2026 (MIA) — Democratic Union for Integration president Ali Ahmeti said the DUI approved of the proposal given at the leaders meeting earlier Wednesday that a single electoral district be formed trhough amendments to the Electoral Code, whereas regarding Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski's idea to scrap the caretaker government he said the state should consult with the European Union and the United States first.

"Regarding the caretaker government issue, we are of the opinion that we should consult additionally with the international community, the international factor and partners who co-authored the Przhino government agreement — the EU and the USA," Ahmeti said.

On the proposal of introducing a double majority requirement for electing the ombudsman, Ahmeti said he had requested additional consultations at the level of parliamentary group whips.

"Consensual democracy has its own rules," he said.

"What remains is for the parliamentary group whips to seek solutions trhough additional consultations," Ahmeti added. mr/
